Vendor Spot Light: ISLA WEDDINGS

You’ve decided to get married in the Cayman Islands! Congratulations! Now where to start?

Seavows can help recommend the vendors to make your nuptials one to remember but what if you’re overseas or just simply have limited time? We suggest using one of our fabulous wedding creators.

Isla Weddings is a wedding and event planning service located in Grand Cayman. If you’re looking for an affordable wedding planner and on the day co-ordinator, then this is who you want on your big day!

This month we thought we’d introduce you to the founder and creator of Isla weddings and find out a bit more about the process!

Hi Michelle! Talk about a dream job!

Q: Why and when did you decide to start Isla Weddings?

I decided to start Isla Weddings in 2016 because I love weddings and I wanted to help couples create the wedding of their dreams. I have been working in the wedding industry for many years, and I have seen it all. I know what it takes to make a wedding day go off without a hitch, and I am here to help you make your day everything you have ever dreamed of.

Q: What’s your favourite part of being a wedding creator in Cayman?

My favourite part of being a wedding creator in Cayman is being in Cayman, this place is beautiful! The majority of my weddings are destination weddings and some don’t have the chance to come down beforehand, all they have seen are photos or videos, so when they see the venue or the beach for the first time, it really is special.

Q: What makes Isla Weddings stand out from other planning businesses?

I believe that what makes Isla Weddings stand out from other planning businesses is our personalized approach. We take the time to get to know each couple, their story, their vision. We then work with them to create a custom plan that meets their specific needs and budget.

Q: What’s the typical timeline for a couple from first contact to the big day?

The typical timeline for a couple from first contact to the big day is about 12 months. However, this can vary depending on how long we have, the record so far has been – 24hrs, and yes, we pulled it off!

Q: What’s your favourite part of the planning process?

My favourite part of the planning process is the moment when everything comes together on the day of the wedding. It is so rewarding to see the couple’s dream come true and to know that I played a small part in making it happen.

Q: What’s the most challenging?

The most challenging part of the planning process is dealing with unexpected events. Things don’t always go according to plan. The truth is my couples have no idea how many “fires” I put out and I like to keep in that way 🙂

Q: Tell us about your favourite wedding memory of all time!

My favourite wedding memory of all time is my parents’ 50th anniversary wedding. My parents have always been so in love, and it was amazing to see them reaffirm their love for each other again, (they had already done it on their 25th!)

The best part of the wedding was that it was a surprise to my mom. My dad had been planning it for months, and he didn’t tell my mom a thing. When she walked into the church and saw everyone there, she was so happy and surprised. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. It was a day that was full of love, happiness, and joy. It was a day that showed me the power of love and the importance of family. I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of it. I will cherish this memory for the rest of my life.

Q: What trends or requests are you seeing from couples in 2023?

Some of the trends that I am seeing from couples in 2023 include:

  • Micro, intimate weddings
  • Sustainable weddings
  • Natural-chic weddings

Q: If you could choose any location in the Cayman Islands for a wedding, where would it be?

That is a tough one, a secluded beach at sunrise, it would be private, not too hot, the colour of the sea would be amazing, and you would still have the whole day to celebrate! It would be the perfect “I do.”

Q: Favourite Caribbean cocktail?

My favourite Caribbean cocktail is the Mango Daiquiri. It’s sweet, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day. Local mangoes are a must! And the best part is, it’s easy to make at home!

Q: What would be the top 3 tips for brides planning a destination wedding?

  1. Get us involved early. So many brides believe they need to do it all themselves, but I love being involved from the beginning! I can help you with everything from finding the perfect venue to choosing the right vendors.  It’s also my job to help you stay within your budget!
  2. Enjoy the process. Planning a destination wedding can be a lot of work, but it is important to enjoy the process. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so make the most of it! Take your time, make decisions that you love, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  3. Remember it’s your day. Everyone will want a piece of you on your special day, but it is important to remember that it is your day. Make sure to take some time for yourselves to relax and enjoy each other’s company. I always pencil in a little TT (timeout together) with my couples.  Them taking that 5mins to look back and see all their special people in one place, just for them. It is a special moment that you will cherish forever.

I hope these tips help you plan the wedding of your dreams!
